Named a Millennium Legacy Trail by the White House, New River Trail State Park parallels 39 miles of the New River, the second oldest river in the world and one of the few flowing north. New River Trail is a mile long state park that follows an abandoned railroad right- of-way. Though hiking Mt. Tallac Trail or to Lower Eagle Falls are good trekking options, the area is also well-known for its water sports and cultural activities. Take a cruise on Emerald Bay, book a parasailing adventure, or snag a kayak for a day paddling through blue waters. Then, hit up the town’s many restaurants, bars, and clubs for a fun end. The Main Route of the Trans-America Trail. The main route of the Trans-America Trail takes in a huge variety of terrain and landscapes. The TAT begins in West Virginia and heads into Georgia before it turns and heads west.
